About Ultra Tour of Edinburgh
The Ultra Tour of Edinburgh is a 55 km ultramarathon taking place on 17 October 2027, starting on the Royal Mile and finishing at the Commonwealth Pool. The trail route passes through and around the city, including landmarks such as Calton Hill, the Water of Leith, and Salisbury Crags, with the start featuring a closed-road procession along the historic Royal Mile.
The event is fully waymarked with orange arrows and supported by paid staff at key locations. Three pit stops provide water, juice, snacks and fruit, with toilets and medical cover on-site. Participants receive a satellite GPS tracker, which must be carried throughout and collected before the event. Medical provision is delivered by a professional team including paramedics and doctors, and a sweeper service supports anyone who needs to withdraw.
Entrants must be over 18 and carry mandatory kit including a rucksack, hydration system of at least 2 litres, waterproof jacket and trousers with taped or welded seams, a bivvi bag, basic first aid, whistle, fully charged mobile phone, full leg cover and thermal layers. Finishers receive a medal, and participants collect a Rat Rag at registration, with the option to add a t-shirt.
