About Waterfoot to Ballycastle
The Ballycastle to Waterfoot Trail Marathon takes runners on a point-to-point route through County Antrim's upland terrain on 22 August 2026. This approximately 90 percent trail course winds through Ballycastle Forest, Slieveanorra, Trostan and Glenariff forest, with long sections offering coastal views. Participants start at Ballycastle and finish at Waterfoot, with an overall time limit of 8 hours.
This is a self-sufficient event designed for experienced fell runners. There are no marshals on most of the course beyond checkpoints, and route-finding relies on a supplied GPX file and existing waymarking. Runners must carry mandatory kit including a tracker, fully charged phone, foil blanket, waterproof layers, hat, gloves, and enough water and food for at least 13 miles. Crew support is permitted where access allows, though pacers are not. Entrants must be over 18 and capable of running unaided for at least 13 miles.
