About West 100
Cornish trails form the backdrop to the West 100, a 100 km team trail running event held over two days in August. Runners participate as part of a five-person team, working together to complete the distance within 36 hours.
The event operates on a self-navigated basis with crew support meeting teams roughly every 5 to 6 miles to provide water, soft drinks, snacks and simple hot food. Mandatory kit includes a high-specification waterproof jacket, windproof trousers, hydration system, bivvy bag and headtorches. Teams must stay together at crew points; those who push ahead are expected to wait for all members before continuing. The organisers reserve the right to ask struggling runners to retire if they are affecting group cohesion.
Entry is restricted to runners with prior experience of completing a 100 km event in under 20 hours and who have raced through the night before. Participants must arrange their own transport to the base location and provide a designated emergency contact for collection if needed.
