About Westcountry Ultra Flat 50 Miler
Westcountry Ultra's established 50 mile race charts a point-to-point course across Somerset's varied landscapes on 8 May 2027. Starting from Taunton Scout & Guide Centre, the route follows the Taunton to Bridgwater Canal Path for its opening flat miles before transitioning to the River Parrett Trail and West Somerset Coast Path. The trail takes in Steart Marshes, passes the limestone cliffs at Lilstock and Kilve, and winds through West Quantoxhead's pine forest before returning coastal via Watchet, Blue Anchor and Dunster Beach to finish at West Somerset College in Minehead.
The 50 mile course totals 2,128 feet of elevation gain and operates under a 14 hour cut-off. Six aid stations are positioned throughout the route, and competitors need to be self-sufficient with their own bottles and cup. The route uses marked diversions on some inland sections, though much of the canal, river and coastal paths are naturally well-defined. A GPX file is provided ahead of the race. Support crews and spectators are welcome on the day. Runners must be at least 18 years old.
