About Windy Hill Fell Race
A 12-mile trail fell race across the Pennine moorlands, Windy Hill takes runners from Denshaw near Oldham on a demanding winter route that climbs toward Hollingworth Lake before ascending to Blackstone Edge. The course follows the high moorland traverse of the Pennine Way to the mast at Windy Hill, then descends into the Ogden Valley before a final climb back to the finish. With approximately 2100 feet of ascent across the route, this is a serious winter undertaking.
The race takes place on 21 February 2027, starting and finishing at the Rams Head Inn in Denshaw. As a winter fell race, full FRA kit is mandatory, including waterproof jacket and trousers, hat and gloves, map and compass, whistle, emergency food and a water bottle of at least 500ml. Participants must be at least 17 years old. Water and sweets are supplied at some checkpoints, and printed A3 maps are available for purchase. Entries are limited to 300 runners.
