About Winter Sugar Loaf
On Halloween 2026, runners head to the slopes of Sugar Loaf for this fell race near Abergavenny in Monmouthshire. The Winter Sugar Loaf covers 10 km of trail with 485 metres of ascent, following the main tourist path with stone steps to the summit. The partially marked route is designed to minimise erosion on this popular peak.
Participants must carry the full WFRA kit list for the entire race and cross the finish line with it intact; anyone arriving without complete kit will be disqualified. October weather in the Welsh hills can be severe, making this requirement essential rather than optional. Parking at race headquarters (The Crown pub in Pantygelli) is extremely limited, so car sharing and cycling are encouraged. Abergavenny train station lies about 3.5 miles away, mostly along national cycle route 42, and an alternative car park at Deri View in Abergavenny sits roughly 2.4 km from the start and can serve as a warm-up route.
