About Yomp Mountain Challenge
Kirkby Stephen's Upper Eden Valley hosts a three-day mountain running weekend, with the Yomp Mountain Challenge forming part of the wider festival. The event offers three distances across trail terrain: a 10 km race, a 20 km route, and a 65 km ultra, all starting and finishing at Basecamp at The Engine Shed in the town centre.
The courses draw runners across fell and valley ground, incorporating sections of Wild Boar Fell, Mallerstang, the Nine Standards, and parts of the Coast-to-Coast and Pennine Way. The longer distances feature marshalled support and feed stations; the 20 km and ultra routes also benefit from GPS tracking for safety. Basecamp operates as a hub throughout the weekend with catering, a bar, live entertainment and retail facilities, plus camping options for those staying over.
