About Yr Wyddfa Ultra 100
Runners can choose between 45 miles or 100 miles of trail running across Snowdonia's mountain landscape during Yr Wyddfa Ultra, based in Betws-y-Coed. Taking place on 4 and 5 September 2027, the 45-mile route encompasses approximately 2,800 metres of elevation gain and passes major peaks including Tryfan, Yr Wyddfa, Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr, alongside sections beside Llyn Crafnant and Llyn Geirionydd.
The event operates with strict qualifying criteria, requiring participants to be at least 20 years old with previous ultramarathon and mountain experience. Navigation competence is essential, and runners cannot rely solely on GPS devices. Mandatory kit includes a hardcopy OS map for Snowdon, compass, waterproof clothing, base layers, a minimum 1-litre water container, headtorch (minimum 75 lumens), survival bag, emergency rations and a whistle. Pacers and support runners are not permitted.
Five checkpoints on the route provide refreshments, vegetarian and vegan options, and on-site medical or first responder cover. Strict cut-off times are enforced throughout the race to support safety and race management.
